Alaska Cruise 2009 - Mush My Friends

We have been waiting since January to head out for this trip and we leave tomorrow!

Our travel companions, Rob and Katy, almost didn't make it. They pulled it out at the last minute thank god. Here are a couple of oldies from past trips (Mexico and NYC).

We head out via Amtrak to Seattle and then transfer to a coach to Vancouver. We decided to do this as opposed to flying and to see more potential sights (also it was $120 bucks for both of us all the way through with business class on the train).

We will then be in Vancouver BC for 2 nights and plan to hit Vij's Indian Restaurant on Thursday after Rob & Katy Arrive. Not sure where we will eat tomorrow night and will play it by ear. Possibly West Restaurant & Bar.

This is our first cruise ever and pretty fuckin excited (and concerned at the same time). We will be sailing the recently refurbished (2007) Celebrity Millenium for 7 nights, Concierge Class on the Sky Deck (with veranda of course). We will be on the right side of the ship for ultimate viewing all the way north.

We also have pre-booked the helicopter sightseeing and glacier walk about tour out of Juneau and the 5 hour Kenai Fjords boat tour out of Seward. Our expectations are high for both and we should not be disappointed.

Here is our travel map screen shot from Tripadvisor.com and our planned itinerary below that.

Sea Lion At Night, Afternoon Delight

Ah, I love the smell of Sea Lion in the morning.

Pretty fucking cool and loads of fun to listen to!

Astoria Is So Sweet

Had a ball with our Denver friends playing Euchre and hearts the other night. Susan shot the moon to tie for the win with Pat for Christs sake.

Andrea made it to the coast yesterday and that was awesome as well.

Plan was to head home today but, we just could not bring ourselves to do it. It was still 99 in Portland, we bolted to Astoria (it was in the 60's) instead and happy about it.

Beat The Heat 2009

We drove like bandits out of town yesterday in order to beat the heat. Maybe the best decision of 2009.

It was 103 yesterday, today tracking to 105 and possibly a record over 107 and tomorrow 104. In summary, brutal. If we wanted to live in the desert, we would have moved to the desert.

At the coast it was about 83 yesterday, maybe 87 today and 86 or so tomorrow. And to think I'm smiling about those temps says something.

And... If I hear another global warming denier say its "cold" in Chicago or Minneapolis this summer, I say come out west mofos.

Thought we would share some Cannon Beach photos as well (Click the photo for the slide show)

The Great Heatwave Escape (Cannon Beach OR)

Who would of guessed it could be so fuckin awesome at the coast? Probably most anyone.

Favorite Dog Contest

The time has come and your vote should count.

Our local newsers have a cutest dog contest going and the time is now. It should be obvious who the winner should be even though we did not enter the Hugo.

I think this one would have won...

Or this one...

Urban Chicken Farming

So, it seems one of our neighbors has taken the plunge. The last couple of mornings (not too early thank god), we have heard the cluck cluck of the hens.

No Roosters to report. Either way this is an interesting development and we will have to see how they assimilate into the hood.

Does This Get Your Goat?

Or what?

WTF? This goat can't drive 55!

We saw this poor goat on I-84 East in a makeshift chicken wire trailer. He sure looks a little less sure footed than he normally would.
